Late Post V: A simple Christmas
After 2009 the Christmas holidays have brought a new meaning in my life. It is the time of the year I get to celebrate, give gifts to, and be somewhat extravagant with my family, albeit without my dad. As one grows up one gets to cherish the time spent with family more and more. You get to the realisation that they are not going to be there forever, so every moment, and every holiday, you get to spend with them, is a blessing.
Unlike Manila where the Christmas season always means traffic jams, crowded shopping centres and tons of Pesos spent on gifts, in Angeles City it is much more traditional and simple. No extravagant light shows, just lights around the iconic Santo Rosario Church and vendors selling Puto Bumbong (purple rice cakes). And a procession or two.
This Christmas we decided to be a little more extravagant than usual and serve lechon de leche (roasted suckling pig). No, we didn't roast it ourselves. We had it preordered two days in advance and picked it up just in time for noche buena. I must admit, it made for some really festive photographs! It was way too much pork though. We had plenty of leftovers, even after guests already consumed a lot of it the day after.
And of course, no Christmas is complete without gifts! Although I must admit that unlike before when I was younger, I now enjoy more giving presents than receiving them. Not for reasons of selflessness though. The things that I want nowadays are so expensive I'd rather buy them myself (hehe)! That's what you get for being tech-savvy.
Finally, I am nearing the end of my late posts! One more and I am once again a jour with my blog posts. And then I can start to plan on making the big changes I have been thinking of doing with this blog. Can you guess what it is? And no, I am not shutting it down :-)
