My final glimpse of spring. For now.
I finally followed my doctor's advice and started taking Prednisone tablets again to ease some of the pollen allergy symptoms. Feeling a sudden bit of relief, I felt brave enough to go out today and take my usual Sunday walks, this time for a final visit to the Oslo Botanical Gardens.
With still several weeks more before summer is declared official, the park obviously wasn't in full bloom yet. There were some flowers here and there, so the day wasn't totally a waste. But being able to walk for a few hours and burn some of the bad calories I have been ingesting lately (I no longer have kitchen utensils to cook with, so I eat fastfood most of the time), this day would have been a productive one just for the walk itself, even if I were to come back without any photographic "keepers".
I feel a little bit sad realizing that all of the things I will be doing in Oslo for the next several days will be "lasts". Last trip to these beautiful gardens, a last chance to see blooms outside of a flower shop, last chance to see flora native to Europe. Leaving the place where you have lived for so long really does feel like dying sometimes. But I am no closing the book I call "Norway" just yet. I know one fine day I will return and a period of renaissance will emerge.
Tomorrow will be my last four days at work, and I will have a full week to clean the apartment before I hand over the keys to my landlady and prepare for the journey home. And while I know I will be greeted with a happy family back in the Philippines, I leave here knowing that I will miss a lot of people, and will be missed back.
Nevertheless I look forward to the many opportunities and new things to discover in the coming months. Things happen for a reason, and I know me returning to my country of birth has a reason. And I cannot wait to photograph every minute of it!
