Tidbits

Here are a few more pictures from yesterday's walk in the city. I had quite a few keepers from that walk, and made me yet again discover a little  more about my city, and myself.

And yes, for those of you still wondering: I am still waiting for my new camera. To be honest I am getting really tired of waiting. It seems the whole world is getting their hands on the new Canon EOS 5D Mark III, except Norway. And to make matters worse they seem to be getting it for much, much less than what it costs here. I just saw a grey market model from a classified ads website in the Philippines. They are selling the Mark III, probably imported from Hong Kong, for just NOK 22000! It irritates me that I have to pay much more. Of course I get the local warranty, which is great. But is it really worth it?

I should really make a deadline for myself, and cancel both my orders for the Mark III and the Nikon D800 if they do not arrive anytime soon. Leica will announce their new lineup of cameras come May 10th. If they have something really attractive, maybe I would just save up some more and opt for that instead!

As much as I want to opt for the Panasonic GX1, I am worrying it might be stretched over its limits when I travel to the US next year to shoot my best friend's engagement photos. I might end up short on three important things: low light (since I will be shooting indoors without additional lighting), depth of field (required to make the couple stand out from the scene) and dynamic range (those small details will be needed since large prints will probably be made). So I am still holding myself back. These small cameras are really a joy to shoot with, but there are some things only a full frame DSLR can do best, DOF being one of them. The physical size of the sensor wins when it comes to those. I intend to give my best friend the very best engagement pictures I can take, hopefully taken with the 5D Mark III and the EF 85mm F1.2L II USM lens! Hopefully I will be able to shoot photographs like these.

I can be sure of one thing though: I will be so grateful, and relieved, when all of this camera talk is finally over! I have spent almost all of my free time waiting and thinking and writing about the waiting and the thinking! I have lost countless hours of sleep and even more hours NOT spent at the gym because all this thinking has made me weary! I am looking forward to when I can once again finally just take pictures about MY life and write about them here, and less talk about cameras and photography techniques.

That's all for tonight folks! I hope you all had a great Monday. It's bright and sunny here. And the birch pollen season is almost over, thankfully!
