Project EOS-1DX: SCRAPPED

Note to my readers: this project has been scrapped. Read my article about being frugal.

It has finally arrived! As a photographer I have been "avoiding" the fully professional cameras, not only for the price tag, but because there are usually two types of cameras designed for either the sports photographer (lower resolution, higher ISO and higher frame rate models) and the landscape/studio photographer (high resolution, lower ISO, lower frame rate). Next year, a new generation of professional photography equipment will arrive, merging those two types of cameras together into a single unit, which sports both a high resolution, full-frame sensor with faster frame rates and ISO levels which will soar to new heights. The answer: the all-new Canon EOS-1DX.

This (big) baby has a 18 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, and can boast frame rates of up to 14 fps(!) and ISO rates of up to an astounding 204800(!!). Insane! But the three new DIGIC sensors inside this camera lifts it to technological heights which were not possible when Canon and Nikon launched their professional series of cameras in 2009 and 2010.

I am in a bit of a dilemma though because this bad boy will not come cheap. Norwegian photo blogs speculate that the price will be between a massive NOK 40-50 thousand (around PHP 200000) for the body only. And full-frame cameras need to be coupled with good glass, which will run the buyer another NOK 10 thousand at the least! The good thing though is that Canon announced this model rather early. It will not start to ship before March 2012, so prospective buyers (that's me!) still have plenty of time to save up.

So it's time to cut back on F&B expenditures, stop buying new gizmos and other stuff, because this camera will be worth it.
