Late post I: A visit from my BFF
I don't recall having ever written about my best friend in the years that I have been keeping this blog. Maybe I might have. But instead of spending countless hours scouring the hundreds of posts I have written in the past, I would rather write about her short visit to the Philippines, and me getting to see her in the flesh, after 5 long years!
The heavens finally smiled at her and, after several tragic relationships with (Filippino) men, she finally met and married the man of her dreams. Of course, with Greg coming from the USA and all, this also meant that Glenda would have to move to Colorado and start a new life there.
Talk about bad timing! Just when I finally decided to move back to the Philippines after nearly 2 decades in Norway, my best friend decided to move out. So when I got back to the Philippines in June 2013, she had already left for the Colorado.
So on October 31, 2014, I finally got to see her again, albeit for only a short while (balikbayans tend to be very busy people). But the few hours we got to hang out together and talk was enough. In heart and spirit, we never really left each other. I guess that's a sign of us being best friends for life. We don't send each other messages on Viber often, we don't talk a lot on the phone or Skype, but it doesn't really matter. We feel connected to each other all the time that we will feel when something is wrong and when a phone call or a text message is necessary.
We've known each other since we were 5 or 6 years old, we've been classmates since pre-school all the way through high school. We've had our fights, and we have turned to each other when we were down, when past relationships have turned sour, or when we feel just competitive and want to kick each other's behind in the tennis court. Glenda is probably the only person I can talk to without any inhibition. We can tell each other our secrets and be assured that half the town will already know about it by daybreak, hehe.
I miss her. I am not sure when we will meet again. If I did not have other responsibilities here for my family I would just use the money I earn to buy a ticket and visit her in the States. But that will have to wait. I do hope she comes again to visit.
