Opening New Doors
Out of pure whim and lack of anything better to do because of insane weather, I decided to turn one of the photographs I have taken recently, to black and white.
Black and white photography is something I have actually never attempted seriously because I unconsciously say to myself time and time again that I am not good at it. But after seeing countless documentaries about B&W photography and photographers on YouTube, I got a little bit of inspiration. I should absolutely try to get my hands on every type of photography I can, open new doors, and push myself out of my comfort zone even more.
I still have a lot to learn about tweaking my pictures so they will look good in black and white. And like HDR photography, I need to be selective about what would look best in black and white and what should be left alone .
The sight of this woman with her dolls caught my eye back when I was in Salou last summer. It made for a great photograph in color, but in black and white it is even better! With the colors gone, all one can see now are the streaks of sunlight on the woman's and doll's face. I can almost feel the texture of the clothing the dolls are wearing. It almost gave a surreal look to the picture (unintentional). I guess I will get better at this when I finally find the time to take pictures again, which hopefully will not be long from now, and hopefully someplace exotic so I can really get inspired.
This is a really good shot. But the dolls are freaking me out. Cool. :)
