WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

Exactly one year has passed since the most tragic day in the history of the peaceful city of Oslo took place. On that rainy Friday afternoon, a desperate right wing extremist detonated a truckfull of explosives at the government quarter of Oslo. Using it to distract the police, he set course to the small island of Utøya, where a group of young people from the Labor Party were having their annual summer gathering. The events that took place still make me cry when I think about it.

Dressed in police uniform, the terrorist gathered the group of young people to his side. The he open fired.

On that fateful day, 69 people, most of them teenagers, lost their lives. The lives of the bereaved, and the lives of all the citizens of Oslo, of the whole country, of those who strive to protect tolerance and equality, will forever be changed.

We stand, one year later, stronger and prouder than ever. With more tolerance, with more equality, with more love. Lives were not lost in vain. We will continue to fight for what these young people believed in. Their legacy will remain in us forever.

As former AUF leader Eskil Pedersen said in his speech: "...he may have taken some of our most beautiful roses. But he can never stop the arrival of spring."

In memoriam. July 22, 2011. We will never forget.
