A new light
I don't know how many times I have to keep apologizing. But here it is again. Real life taking hold and making me too busy (lazy) to post anything.
After a 6-month hiatus I am now back again at work, as a systems analyst for a Canadian BPO handling a Norwegian project. The good news is the job is very well paid. The bad news is that the work is in Manila, meaning I have to rent an apartment and only get to see my family in Angeles City during the weekends.
But I really cannot complain. This is what I have dreamed of for quite some time now, to be able to work in the Philippines and be much closer to my family! Of course I had to say farewell to the Norwegian work ethic. Things are much more bureaucratic here in the Philippines. But as long as I give it my all and try to do a good job as I possibly can I am sure I will not have to worry so much about corporate politics and such.
And for those of you who were wondering: the picture above was taken in Burgos, Pangasinan, where the family spent the Easter holidays. In my previous post I mentioned that I had to sell off the Fujifilm X100S due to lack of funds. I decided to NOT buy the same camera this time around. Mirrorless cameras have a price penalty because of their diminutive size. It's great to have a small camera when walking around taking photographs, but I can't seem to justify the cost when one can get so much more features by going up in size and getting a DSLR instead. So I'm toting around a Nikon D7100 for the moment, which is a great camera. And the size will not be so much an issue when I couple it with the 35mm DX lens I plan on getting as soon as I get my next paycheck.
I do not have so many opportunities to go out and take pictures with the camera yet. But like most DSLR's I have handled in the past, it takes great photographs if you have control over the settings. I still want to go full frame in the near future. But camera sensor technology is improving at such a rapid pace that even a small sensor camera like the Nikon D7100 can give some full frame cameras a run for their money.
I hope that I will be able to take more pictures and most more in the near future. I remember I told myself days before I left Oslo that life in the Philippines will be awesome and that there will be many photographs. Well, life here IS awesome, but I still have not gotten around to the different way of life in this country and how I can adapt my photography hobby to coexist with it. But partly it has something to do with me and my succumbing to the heat. I am really not a "fan" of these hot temperatures if you know what I mean :-)
I will try harder. I promise.
