Things I will miss: the Sunday walks
In light of the fact that I will soon be leaving Norway to be with my family in the Philippines, I have made it a mission of mine to go out with my camera as much as I can and take pictures around Oslo. I want to document the things I do, the places that I go to and the sights that I lay my eyes on, especially those which I will miss.
And here's the first one: the Sunday flea market at Grünerløkka, the neighborhood where I live. It became a "habit" of mine to visit this market every Sunday, partly because there is not much one can do on a Sunday in Norway since everything is closed. In the Philippines I have yet to see a "real" flea market where only used things are being sold. But that is highly unlikely now, since malls seem to have taken over the entire archipelago.
I never buy anything. I am not very keen on "shabby chic" items. But it's nice to see what kind of things people have in their homes, especially old people (as a lot of the things being sold here are what we call "dødsbo", or the estate of a departed person). For tourists, this is probably THE place to buy souvenirs which are authentic, truly Norwegian, and not something made in China!
Of course a place where a lot of strange things are being sold is also bound to attract people from all walks of life. This is one of the charms of places like these. Sometimes it's much for fun looking at the people than the things which are on sale. I just wish I have more courage to walk up to them and ask their picture to be taken. But in due time I guess. There is still so much more to learn about photography apart from mastering lighting, exposures, and mood (which is why these pictures are black and white. They still look very nice in color though). This guy wearing the "V For Vendetta" mask caught my attention. He looks cool, in a very peculiar manner. I like people who don't really give a particular interest as to how other people might see them.
I will probably visit this place again before I leave to take more pictures of the things they are selling. Today was just a short walk since I still have some stuff to do at home. But it's a nice start.
As for people who are wondering how I am getting along with my new camera, well, it's FANTASTIC! The awesome dynamic range renders well especially when making black and white pictures. This is probably one of the better cameras that I have used, and I have used a lot of them!
