Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow
Last Tuesday I finally bade farewell to my beloved Pentax K-5.
It was bound to happen. But I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon. I prematurely put it up for sale because I though I would need to pay up front to preorder the Nikon D800. This wasn't the case. And while I thought at first that the response to the ad was cold, sure enough after a few days calls from interested buyers started coming in.
The Pentax will surely be missed! If you have been reading my previous blog posts you'd know that I have nothing but praise for this little gem of a DSLR. This is the camera I used to learn the ropes of HDR photography. This camera with its extensive bracketing options seemed to be made especially for this type of photography. And kudos to Pentax for making a DSLR with an APS-C sized sensor, while maintaining enough dynamic range for post processing work.
But it makes me happy to think that my trusty K-5 is now in the hands of a photographer who will be using it to the fullest. It's happy new owner is Eyvind Bjørsland, a sporty photography enthusiast from Elverum with great potential. He has been using the Pentax K-x before so he is not new to the brand. And the amazing photos he has managed to capture with the K-x only means that the K-5 will help him to become a better and more creative photographer. I am looking forward to see the new images he has captured on his Flickr stream.
There will be no looking back now. When I finally get my Nikon D800 I plan to totally commit myself to the Nikon system. I have planned and saved for months so the Nikon D800 is a very sound investment on my part without any financial risk involved. In (hopefully) a few weeks life will once again be in full-frame, and that is where I intend to stay.
So this means the whole Easter break will be spent without a camera, which I think is ok. I've been working 12-16 hour days at work almost every day since February and I feel physically and mentally drained. The 5 days off will be used to nurse a sore throat and recharge my exhausted body and mind.
