Sunday Walks (Awakening)

Yet another beautiful day in Oslo, and it appears this is going to continue for the next few days! It's a Sunday, and since I have been living in Norway for many years now, I have adapted and do as they do during Sundays: take walks. Long walks I might add. I was feeling adventurous (or optimistic) and decided I would walk along the Akerselva, from where I live, all the way to Maridalen. This is actually a nice walk during the summer months. I wasn't sure how it was going to be today though. It's only been  few days since spring reared it's head, so there would probably still be patches of snow and ice I would have to watch out for. And boy was I right! I wasn't really scared since there were a lot of people out today, so if ever I slip or get into an accident there will always be someone to help. But today's walk was a test of my balance, and patience! I can still feel the pain in my legs, and my body still feels tense. It was a difficult walk, but it was very good exercise.

And naturally, since it was so slippery I was very fearful for my camera. It will still be quite a while before I can acquire my dream camera, so I have to take care of my Pentax K-5 as much as I can. I therefore wasn't able to take as many pictures as I wanted. The scenery was beautiful, but my lens had a limited reach and a lot of the scenic areas were still inaccessible due to the amount of snow and ice still present. We would need a few more weeks of mild weather to melt all the snow. But as you can see from the picture, the river is starting to awaken.

So with my camera mostly tucked away safely inside the Lowepro Flipside 300 I was doing more contemplating rather than looking for photo opportunities. What was I contemplating on? Well I was thinking that just because I am saving up for the Leica M9-P doesn't mean that my life has to come to a standstill, since that would mean that my photography will also stagnate. I would need to allocate some money as well so I can travel a little and experience new sights and new impulses, so I can be more inspired and take more pictures. It might mean that getting my dream camera would take a bit longer than planned. But as long as I have the Pentax K-5 I need not worry so much. It's light enough and is capable of capturing excellent images even if doesn't have a red dot!

So that's it for February! The next few days will be rather busy due to the end of month reporting, so I am not sure if I will be able to take pictures until the weekend. But what an awakening this week has been! It's a slow process but I am getting back on track! I am sure there will be more opportunities to take pictures as the temperatures get warmer and Oslo holds more and more activities. I will try to write another post during the work week, but no promises there. In the mean time I wish all of you a nice start to the week ahead!
